Protect Your Max Tile

Level: Basic

Avoid moving your biggest tile unless you absolutely have to.

Your biggest tile is the anchor the whole game revolves around. If it moves too often, it throws off the alignment with the second- and third-largest tiles stacked beside it.

Keep the max tile in its corner, and only merge it once you've created a second tile of the same value. Until then, play in directions that leave the max tile undisturbed.

Keeping the second-largest tile right beside the max tile means that when the two eventually merge, the new max tile naturally settles into the corner.
