Setting Up Chain Merges

Line up values so multiple merges fire in a single move.

The most efficient moments happen when several pairs merge simultaneously in a single move. To set this up, pre-align tiles of the same value in the same row and direction.

For example, if a row has 2, 2, 4, 4 side by side, sliding that direction once creates a 4 and an 8 at the same time. Keeping values grouped in size order makes these chain merges happen often.

Chain merges don't just boost your score sharply — they also free up several cells at once, giving you room to breathe. Build a row that's ready to merge, then slide in that direction at just the right moment.
