Favor Two Directions

Rely mainly on two directions instead of pressing all four at random.

The most common beginner mistake is pressing any direction at random and scattering the tiles. To stick with the corner strategy, use mainly two directions (say, down and left), and save the other two for when you truly need them.

Sliding in just two directions keeps your tiles aligned to one side, letting a chain of large values form naturally. The board becomes predictable, making it easier to plan your next move.

Only use a third direction when you're stuck, and save the corner-breaking direction (usually "up") as an absolute last resort.
